Danny: "Gwen is smart, but there's just this one thing she says that drives me freaking crazy...she'll say something is ironic when it's not."
Me: "Oh, like when it's really sarcasm?"
Danny: "No. I mean, she's gotten a lot better about it now, but she'll say something's ironic when she really means it's coincidental."
Me: "Oooooohh. Ack."
Danny: "I know right? She'll be like, 'We just got here at the same time they did! Isn't that ironic?', and I'm like 'No! It's not! I love you to death and you're not stupid, but you're using it wrong!'"
Me: "My biggest pet peeve in language was a few years back when everyone was saying 'literally' when they really meant 'seriously'. I mean they still do it, but come on! If you're saying 'literally', you mean literally; as in word-for-word this is what happened. I don't think he was literally 'jumping down your throat.'"
Danny: "It's gotten to the point where it's used as hyperbole now, which is completely the opposite of what it's supposed to mean."
Me: "Yeah... That's ironic."
Danny: "Literally."
